Today may not be “The Day”, but you can sure see it from here.
Well here we are boys, election day. “It is morning again in America”. Man, even with Reagan’s horrible anti-gun madness and inexcusable criminal shenanigans in central America I can still love that sentiment in the commercial from his 1984 campaign. But that feeling isn’t about him or any other politician, it is about us. It’s morning again in America. The hope, pride, and nationalism that era evoked allowed the country to recover from the absolute disaster that was the 1970s. Many of us lived through it and saw the resurgence of American pride as kids. We saw our dad’s get better jobs (or even “a” job). We saw the economy begin to recover from runaway inflation and set the conditions for the economic boom of the 1990s. The pride in being American was palpable in the mid 1980s, I can only hope that we return to that sentiment. Of course it was not perfect, only one thing on this earth ever has been. But the culture and the pride of being an American is what we need as much as we ever have. It is what most of us long for. It is OK to love your country and your fellow Americans…even though the agenda and messaging since 2008 has told us otherwise. I don’t know what tonight and the early morning hours will bring for our country, I just pray that it sets a bright path forward that holds a future of betterment for my family and yours.
FEMA Standard Building Markings
Will keep the content brief today as everyone will be preoccupied (rightfully so) with the current event at hand. I wanted to pass along our post on Instagram from a couple of weeks ago about search and rescue building markings. The subject resonated with our audience and made it through the algorithm, so it spread quickly to about 65k IG readers. I wanted to share it in here for our non IG friends as well, it fits well with the community prepping subject newsletter from two weeks ago. I will cut this in as the original slides to keep the clean / simplified version available for you. As you digest this be aware the only constant is inconsistency in the application of this standard. Some teams don’t mark at all anymore, some use variances of this system. Either way it is good to know what the doctrine is even if it is not adhered to every time by every team.
This should be added prior to entry but some teams will only add it after the search.
This is one of the “standards” that is wonky, some locations and teams will use this as a condemned / not safe to enter symbol. Lesson learned is know the local SOP before trusting the markings.
